Strawberry Jelly Cheesecake

This is the 3rd or 4 th try of cheescake making. Ever since I decided to learn how to make a cheesecake, I have never succeeded. I almost gave up after each baking. It turned out like a mango pudding rather a mango cheesecake.

Well, today's cheesecake is a success and the credit goes to the baking guru - Ms Shu zhen.

She really bakes alot from what I know.. She offered her time and taught me the process this afternoon. It was kind of fun except for the waiting time. We were busy preparing the cake and also playing the card gmae- Saboteur, during the incubation time.

New Moon

I am actually not a fan of twilight. But after watching the twilight saga : new moon on sat night, I was hooked by the story. Frankly speaking this movie isn't very fantastic, the storyline is quite bland. What actually that allure me was the characters - Jacob, the werewolf and of course Edward, the vampire. The relationship betweeen Bella, Edward and Jacob is somehow like a fantasy.

The love story can be quite predictable. Edward leaves Bella so that he won't be able to hurt her anymore. Bella falls into depression. Bella then find solace in a friend - Jacob, who has a crush on her. Jacob falls in love with Bella. Bella tries to get herself killed because she thinks that risks allow her to get closer to her ex boyfriend - Edward. Edward thinks that Bella has died. Edward wants to die by going through decapitation. Alice then appeared to Bella and told her the situation. Bella then rushes to the Volturi and saved Edward....so on and so forth.....

I guess girls including me love the whole idea of a guy who is so in love with you to let you go and protect you.

It seems like I had lost touch with my blog, not updating frequently and it somehow became dormant. Busyness has been with me for the past few months. 8 hours of work has turned to 12 hours instead and office has gradually became my second home. Is it worth to work long hours? I have asked myself for gazillion times but still no answer to it and and I just have to continue this routine. Okay so this explains my total disappearance here...

Took a day off from work today. Am trying my best t0 make full use of the time that I had for myself. Without hesitation I decided to re do rocky road and this time is a success! see picture below, it makes you drool right?

1 day Ubin trip

Finally explored almost 3/4 of Ubin island. We started our day at 10am and travelled up the hilly areas with the bikes. The most important thing was we took numerous pictures. Lovess it!

The agenda looked like this:

0930am - breakfast at KFC pasir ris

1000am - arrived in Ubin and rented bikes to suit our preferences

1000 - 1100am -pedaling through the rustic road in search of the right route to ketam quarry

1100 - 1200am - walked in the forest and reached the peak to see the quarry

1300-1400pm - lunch at a chinese food store

1400 -1430pm - welcome mel and nic to Ubin

1500 - 1630 pm - begin the Chek Jawa boardwalk

1630 - 1730 pm - set off and cycled down from the unsteady road

1800pm - settled down for dinner

It's Friday again. The less stressful day of the entire working week. Have been working very lately since the day the financial crisis sets in. Banks like the one I 'm working with, is facing a huge restructure. Instead of freezing head count and reducing manpower, my department is recruiting more staff. It will take another few more weeks before the heavy work load is distributed to the new hires that 'll be joining the team in March.

Recently, darling Lin bought himself a new gadget. An extravagant gift for himself. With the new Sony alpha DSLR camera, he's so excited that he kept bringing it out for shooting. Apparently, the pictures taken from SLR are fantastic and crystal clear compared to a normal point and shoot digital camera.

Just met up with Kelvin, Wanting and bf at orchard. Yes, orchard again! Amazingly not sick of the haangout at orchard rd. We went dinner at Thai Xpress in Heeren then continued with our movie showing at Box office cinemax. It was my first time to this entertainment center and it was a pretty good environment to view the movie - Pan's labyrinth in a small dark room equipped with sound system and comfy sofa.

When I was reading my emails, an incoming email with a subject heading ' Do you know'? came into my inbox folder. I was like telling myself, ok it's another forwarded mail on some jokes or riddles to cheer up for the day. So the next thing I did was a click and the email got deleted. But soon after it was being removed, I just feel not right and went searching for it in the deleted box. AHHA... it was from Kimberly and so it must be the usual update.

Here comes the quarter finals of Euro champ.
tonight the spotlight is on Turkey vs Croatia, what do you think about this match? On the way home, we passed by spore pool and popped in without much hestitation to check out the rates. It seems like many are putting their fingers on Turkey, expecting them to prevail. Over the past few matches, I have tried to update myself with every single match so that I can be kept in the loop for the discussion. Croatia is very consistent in each play which brought them victory in the past 3 matches with opponents like Austria, Germany and Poland.

Here comes the Euro cup again. Many of us have to work 2 shifts at this period of time.
After work ends at 8pm or so, another starts in the midnight till the dawn.
The worst part will be the hang over that makes you feel lethargic and powerless in the morning
when you are back to the real work.

If you have realised, i have not been really updating my diary and the main reason for doing so
is sheer laziness. I have recently discovered how lazy i can be. Most of the time after work, I am just like a couch potato. just like the feeling of doing nothing. weeks have passed, many things had happened. In the month of May, I have attended 2 wedding celebrations. A friend and a colleague's big and stunning day.

Thereafter, a very shocking funeral of an ex classmate, who had just passed away suddenly. We have lost her due to an unknown viral infection. The day was sorrowful and most of us were dumbfounded to see her lifeless body in the coffin. Life can be so unpredictable...

June just arrived silently. And this is where we realised planning should begin somewhere now.
Friends around us are doing equally well. So the next step will be a promotion, investment, financing and setting up a family of our own. In order to have a smooth plan ahead, both of us must really work hard to save and refrain from too much of entertainments.

Rice Hoarding

The most recent concern in Asia is the issue on the soaring rice prices. The rising prices have sparked panic buying as people stock up in the hopes of beating future price hikes.
This phenomenon is seen in some singaporeans, upon knowing prices for commodities are expected to soar, some residents in Toa payoh actually swept off packets of rice at the nearby NTUC! Anyway, it's not surprising enough as singaporeans are always being labeled for the 'kiasu' attitude.

When i overheard the conversation from some housewives at the supermarket, I have a strong urge of telling them that 'lucky you women are in spore, else the act of rice hoarding will be considered as a crime and get arrested'. Anyhow, I did not bothered about them and just walked off. But I am sure, the group will be plotting on how to deliver as many bags of rice as they could to avoid the price hike of ' jing fei ren xiang mi' !!!

People in thailand, philippines and bangladesh are not so fortunate compared to us. These poverty stricken countries are hard hit by the higher food prices. While the our people here are busying buying rice home, the people in those regions are struggling with the spiralling cost of food in particularly rice and cooking oil. Earlier on some poor countries in Asia have suffered from the fuel price hike, which means a direct sharp rise in price of kerosene which is widely used by them for cooking.

Let's hope their government can stretch out with increased subsidies to help to curb the social unrest.

Our career path

Time flies and most of my peers are approaching the age of 24. It's has reached a point where young adults of this age would think sensibly for the future and set achieveable goals .
I believe everyone has long-term goals or aspirations. These are the things that individuals hope to accomplish over the course of their lives.

At times, I felt lost in finding direction, in setting my personal goals. Basically, it's a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future. After some struggling, I'm kind of back to track but I do feel a sense of instability. This shows that I am not knowing precisely of what I want to achieve and thus uncertain where do I have to concentrate my efforts.

Seriously, I have too many lifetime goals that I wish to accomplish. I see myself now in having a good career prospect in the banking sector. However, there's some part of my mindset is holding me back, which I have yet to discover what was that. In other words, I 'm in a dilenma.

On the other hand, I am indeed glad for Thaddeus. He's beginning his new job in one of the world's most prestigous financial institution. The journey he is about to begin will ultimately bring him towards his personal goal. Toast to him***

The end of the year is fast approaching, leaving behind a week to end the year of 2007.

Have you tried to sit down and look back at the year it was and look forward to the year ahead?

A common question probed by most people was: "what's your new year resolution?"

Stating resolution is rather meaningless if one just say with no purpose and aim in the mind.
There is always a list of resolutions such as spending more time with family, quit smoking, keeping fit, learn something new, get out of debt, so on and so forth.

In the end, none was executed into action. Before you just list down any resolution, give it a good thought and be sure that you're committed and ensure it goes into effect on new year day. Otherwise, don't bother to think of any if it's gonna be unachieved. It's a waste of your goddamn time.

A STRONG MIND STARTS WITH A FIT BODY

After joining the Citibank vertical marathon and having to climb up the 42 flight of stairs in about 7 minutes, I told myself I can do better than this.

The first step in achieving my target is to set aside some time for exercise. Truthfully, it was very hard to stick to the exercise regime initially. Well... afterall I found that it's all a matter of working around your schedule and with the end in mind. So the end result I want to see from myself is firstly to lose weight and body fat. Secondly is to stop myself from getting too tired easily especially after a busy day at work. When your metabolism increases you do not feel so sleepy or you will not feel lethargic and be much more alert.

As a Citibanker, we are entitled to join the FitnessFit Club under the corporate price. The best part is that it can be claimed from the company since each employee is entitled to utilise a certain sum of money throughout a year. Ever since joining the club, I have been hitting the gym almost every other day. So far the most toughest class would be the pilates session. Nevertheless, I still quite like the program and the best outcome is the strengthening of the torso muscles. Whoosh!

However, in the recent years, safety problems linked to China-made goods were on the rise. And now China's priority is to build and maintain consumer trust and confidence if the country wants to maintain the export growth rates in the continued years.

Hundreds of cases have been documented and proven that there are several problems emerging on products such as honey, peanut and unauthorised genetically modified food such as rice. As such, China was potrayed as a factory that clamped down on shoddy goods.

This has posted an irritating problem for all consumers and trading partners.
Imagine the food produced is not reliable for consuming; the necessity like toothpaste has contained diethylene glycol which is toxic to the body; the so called branded Gucci bags are fake; the animal feed is fatal to your adored puppy....

Price hike

What's new? fuel price increase is a recent concern for almost every country.

Then what's next? flour prices were increased up to 30% is a 2 week old news.

Followed by today update on the effect of new ERP charges.

Obviously this isn't a new issue since the latest increase in charges is the third hike in the year.

And who are gonna be affected? people that travels on CTE, BKE and ECP.

More gantries are built for this implementation and the period has extended from 2 to now 4 hours.

This is so called "high class society" that we the people are residing!

Men vs Women

This is a question men often ask:

"I really don't understand why a small rock would cause so much delight in women."

I read from somewhere which states that there is a medical reason that might explain this issue. The ability to see the colours Red and Green comes from the X Chromosome. Women have two X chromosomes while men have only one. When the genes on the X chromosome is non functional and since men only have a single X chromosome, they are unable to perceive the colours Red and Green.

Women are protected because if one X chromosome is faulty, they have another one which most probably will be normal. Research has shown that because women have two X chromosome, some women can actually see a wider spectrum of colours! So, for some women, instead of seeing just seven colours of a rainbow, they can actually perceive ten colours. That might explain why women value a diamond much more than men!

Makan Sutra

William,Wenkai and I planned a eat out at Tom Ton this evening. Too bad that i forgot to get my camera with me, else pcitures can do the talking. This is one of the best jap food dinner this year. I just followed them and when we arrived there, my stomach went crazy. My first inclination is to benchmark against Tonkichi's and I must say I like Tom Ton's offering better. The pork and its breaded crust is so tasty that it melts in our mouths... yummy. The next destination is at chinatown. William wanna tried the dessert as he claimed that is the best house of dessert. With the filled stomachs, we continued to finish bowls of boiled hashima dessert soup.

Happy Birthday to me!!!

thank thad for organizing a birthday retreat to sentosa, we had a wonderful day there, we pitch tent at siloso beach and laze the whole afternoon in a sauna like tent. After leaving the beach as the rain is approaching, we went sight seeing around the small island and took a romantic cable car ride from sentosa to Mt. Faber and back to the small island. The ride back is dramatic,the car stop in the middle of no where and when the wind blow, it swinged back and forth. It's Super scary!!!! The day ended with a sick show "Joshua" at GV Vivo

the next day we had dinner at jack's place and end the day with a marvellous cake. but it's too chocolatety for me cos i do not have a sweet tooth. Thad has it all planned for me! From gift to outings to surprises to hugs and kisses. It's a wonderful birthday! I love him!!

Beautiful day

Recently I was too shacked and did not find time to update my blog. Finally took a break and so I decided to pay a visit to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. Two years ago, Huiting and I went to the fund raising for the building construction. When the temple was finally built and setup, we did not get a chance to meet up for viewing the majestic temple. On tuesday which was on the mooncake festival itself, I made a trip down to south bridge road where the temple is located at. Upon arrival, I was so fascinated by the architecture. From what i read about and understand from, the interiors and statuary are inspired by the Tang Dynasty, an era where Buddhism flourished in China in a golden age of artistic and cultural vibrancy. If you have not seen this unique place of worship, then you ought to visit this hotspot of Singapore. Anyway it's just a ten minute walk from chinatown mrt. Exit onto people's park, cross the bridge and land on pagoda street. Proceed to temple street and then to smith street, from there make a left turn and walk all the way into the lane.

This is a simple and small western food resturant. But it has attracted big crowds especially the weekends. The food is good and at very reasonable price. The pitfall is the damn long queue which may predipose to the marvellous taste of the food; when you go hungry for long, any food that is served taste great!

I thought the longest waiting time I ever experienced was when we waited for the butter crabs @ AMK block 238 and that is like 1 hour. But, Aston's western food had made the four of us join the queue for a solid 80mins.

Anyway it is situated at east coast road opposite of Katong mall.

Inauspicious 23

Although I am 23 years old, the inauspiciousity doesn't lie with my age but rather the date itself.23 is an unlucky number and I hate it. Quarrels are bound to happen and mood will turn sour. Yesterday all the troubles were so far away....

Over the years spent at school you learned that if you did the work, you will get all the credit that was due you... The harder you worked the more credit you got maybe even more bonus points.
Basically if you did pretty much what you were supposed to do - no matter how you look liked, what you dressed, no matter how fabulous or stunky your attitude, no matter what your gender or orientation, no matter if you asked a zillion questions or not one - you were promoted to the next grade and eventually rewarded with a lovely diploma... This is never the same when you start working !

Part II

After the day at airport waiting for the delegates, I went to expo because there is MPH sale....
Books were selling as cheap as five bucks. Kind of dismay as I have bought few from kino last week and they were not as low price as offered by MPH. Anyway the novels are not the latest unless you are one of those early birds (who cares as lomg as they cheap). Spent 30 mins sitting at one corner with a good guide and it was when my feet went numb that i got to pull myself up and proceed to the long queue.

Next i popped into the food fair which was just beside the MPH hall. It was my first visit to the singapore food feista. I spent a worthy 6 dollars on 3 kinds of food - the hainanese chicken rice, the oyster omelette and the fabulous Kong Ba Bao... I tell you the food was delectable and wondrous... Thad called in the right time to curb my eating so i ended the eating spree with a ching chow...

A Proud owner of Samsung Z370 Ultra Edition 8.4

MY SAMSUNG!

My motorola gave up on me after faithfully serving me for 1 year, phone these days weren't make to last, even if the hardware do last, the design will soon be phrase out and be replace with better and nicer phone.

In the past year, Samsung has built a strong reputation for featuring some of its slimmest handsets in its Ultra Edition series. The new Ultra Edition 8.4 (a.k.a. SGH-Z370) is no exception. Touted as the thinnest 3G phone in the world during its initial European launch in August 2006, the 8.4 improves upon the Ultra Edition 6.9 with several key enhancements, including 3G connectivity, dual cameras and an expansion card slot. The extra features do add slightly to the bulk of the handset, but frankly you'd be hard-pressed to find another phone that's as slim and feature-rich as the 8.4.

Ultra Edition 8.4, the mobile measures just 8.4mm. While it may not be as thin as its Ultra Edition 6.9 predecessor, we like that it feels a lot less flimsy. Combined with the solid build quality of the handset

Given a choice, we hope to see the 8.4 being introduced in more vibrant colors. Aesthetics-wise, Samsung adopts a plain-looking yet functional approach for the 8.4, with its design modeled closely after the 6.9. The phone follows a flat, wide footprint, with buttons and connectors on both sides. The microSD card expansion slot can be accessed from the right side and comes with a plastic cover to keep out the dust and dirt. The 1.9-inch landscape display makes it easier to read messages. Buttons on the keypad are generally well-spaced and large enough for comfortable typing. Compared with the 6.9, Samsung has added two extra keys on the 8.4 for video calls and quick function switch just above the call and end call buttons, respectively.

The center navigation button to access the Internet will take some getting used to as it is instinctively a menu button for many other phones. To enable 3G video calls, the 8.4 comes with a VGA camera right above the TFT screen and a 2-megapixel sensor on the rear. The back camera is aligned with a self-portrait mirror plate on a flat surface that juts out slightly from the rest of the back cover.

It's great for taking pictures as it is designed so your finger doesn't block the lens. This design, though, puts the glass at greater risk of being scratched. For such a thin phone with limited real estate, we're surprised that Samsung still manages to squeeze in a small hook for hanging phone straps and other dangly accessories.

As with all small phones, there's always a tradeoff. For the Ultra Edition 8.4, the shortcoming is with the small battery. On average, the cell lasted us for about two days based on moderate usage. This should suffice for most folks, but if you are a heavy user and plan to employ more of the 3G applications such as data transfer and video calls, one can reasonably expect the battery to run even shorter. Unfortunately, unlike the 6.9, the 8.4 will not come with an additional battery. So you may have to factor in the cost of an extra battery when purchasing this phone.

A laid back saturday

singapore botanic garden is never a place in the list for excursion during school days. out of so many places i never thought of going to botanic garden for a walk but today i finally welcome my first visit to there. it's a scorching day but we enjoy the walk. i took many pictures of the various species of the plants for example orchidarium and many others. i shall let the pictures do the talking later...

after two hours of wandering in the stupid garden, fiona and i went to orchard to have a late lunch. she brought me to ICHIBAN and we had a sumptuous meal. The meal consists of a salmon bowl, a katsu don, a plate of soft shell crab, miso soup, fruits and ocha which is only for 14 bucks. very worth it and they taste marvellous. thumbs up!

kino has 20% discount storewide and being kino members we made our way to the store. mitch albom wrote a new book again - "one more day" and without hesitation i pick one from the shelf. the queue is very long and everyone is holding at least three to four books or mags for transaction. our turn came after having to wait for a goddam 20 minutes. paid for the books and we go rest at the nearby coffee bean. i was so glee to have settled down with my favourite malibu dream...

The destructive nature of cancer

if you have read or study about cachexia, which is a wasting condition usually associated with end stage cancer. you would probably know that patients' metabolism is altered which results in severe weight loss, muscle atrophy, fatique and extreme weakness. fats and protein are breakdown rapidly and left only the bones. i have been seeing pictures of such in my notes while studying for the exam of clinical biochem. however, today i have seen a real cachexia patient lying on the bed panting for her last breath.

she is someone who used to dote on me and that was long long ago in my primary school days. as i grew older i realised that she is not as good as i thought. actions have proved me right such as bullying my nanny, stealing things that does not belong to her and sprouting nonsense which triggers dispute and others which can take days to list. * i 'm not exaggerating !

this is my first time i visit her after knowing about her condition seven months ago and it's most likely the last time i see her alive. i touched her forehead and stroked her bony arms and within me i was saying a little prayer hoping she could leave in peace. the best i can do is to pray for her painless death.

medical library is moving from its usual place to central library.. gonna walk at least twenty minutes from my lab to there. i wasn't aware until this afternoon when i went over to the library to borrow some biochemistry books. shelves of books were cleared and loaded into huge boxes. phew heng i was there early to grab the textbooks i intended to read before the semester starts. fortunately nus staff is allowed to borrow 40 books at one shot but of course i m not that crazy to retain so many books. even i did, i won't have that ample time to finish them. will hurry here after i got the list of recommended books. in fact medical library has basically got a full range of almost every biology books and i like best its conducive environment...

actually not really it's just my budget month so need to cut down cost.. haa.. let's hope my mum won't mind the value of this pressie. she is planning to go taiwan this june so i guess it would be wise to get her a luaggage bag. she is petite so the size of the bag is just perfect for her and is her favourite red color... very "song" right... that is one of my favourite color TOO!

weekend is approaching

my legs are kicking eh... michelle was asking wanna go club at momo and i have an urge to give an immediate yes. but my feet are not working well the pain has recurred and i think i seriously got to do something about it. it could be a suspected thrombosis.. sigh at the age of 23 i am suspected of having problems with my blood vessel... i have been longing to dance yet i have turned down the weekend clubbing many times. pray hard that my feet could function again and i could go dancing with increasing flamboyance.

after exams, i am filled with some free time. went to the library to borrow two books. they were thrillers which can keep me in suspense, i like the heart throbbing feeling. feel so great when i made a right guess of the culprit of the story. dreams of rescue reminds me of pharmacology, the exam for this module was just over, a week ago. words like prozac, digitalis, serotonin, nitriglycerine were all so familiar. they were closely related to depression. but in this story, the main character was not suffering from depression but he has went insane and began to abuse his wife. reading novels and studying for exams are two distinct tasks and the former has no sleeping effect even if i read for hours, the more i read the more i would love to complete to the last page. last night, i was still awake at the witching hour of three am but when the morning comes, the sleeping spell set in. so i quickly get myself a cup of hot coffee, packed my lunch into my pinkie bag and set off for the working day.

i have been sleeping away the sunday, the lazy bone is back with me once again. after breakfast sleep after lunch sleep, woke up play a few rounds of flowershop, then back to sleep again. actually was planning to go botanical garden this morning, but the friend of mine had to accompany her boyfriend at the last minute so we cancelled the excursion. so besides being bedridden i have also stick my arse on the chair for hours just to complete the whole series of flowershop. finally i am done with the mission and meg gets to retire. anyway this is not the end, i am going to hunt down another game - cake mania... haa many say these are stupid games, they just don't know how to appreciate, that 's all!

yo whoozzzzzz!

exams are over yesh. for the first time i can go play like hell...had a noisy dinner at marshe with buddies. shopping at taka with no purpose and finally head to the last destination at gardens mac for a brief talk and a drink. the night was young so i caught spider in the threatre with thad. the black spiderman was cool but evil, the show had input a few touching scenes and i teared twice.

the night was not young anymore after the two hours at eng wah, go home and catch beauty sleep till now (time is 2.59pm) AND for the first time i slept for so long. i have two weeks of break before the new semester begins so i am going to make good use of the time to rest before i am on the battle with school and work. oki going to hibernate later though the weather is warm.

friday the 13th

the day has been great with no barriers. slightly busy trying to get more things done on time since monday is a holiday for me. boss is so kind to let me off on the next monday since there is nothing much to do during the annual lab investigation.. so he gave me the consent to go for study leave and of course i was too grateful to say a second word.

lesson ended ususually early. as i was reading the notes i overheard a conversation between two ladies, most probably in their thirties. both were a social worker discussing on the task of taking care of children. so shock to realised nowadays parents were on hectic work schedule that they hired maids to take charge of their preschool kids. this was what lady A told lady B " during my time off i went to fetch my boy and found that there is 80% of maids, 10% of mothers and 10% of grandparents waiting anxiously outside the childcare center."

woa the proportion is so skewed.. in the sense parents or in fact the mothers only stand 10% in taking the responsibility. everyone is working very hard to earn money for better life and kids starting at the age of five has no proper care and guidance from parents. being a conservative woman, i can see that i'm going to give up my beloved work for my children. at least making sure they are well taken care of and provide them with wonderous childhood time, this is my goal and my dream. of course i'm not saying to be jobless for many years, one is still allowed to step into the working society anytime anywhere. yeah!

anyway when i alighted from the bus, a girl bumped into me and questioned my shoes. this is the 6th time that i am repeating myself the pair of feather-like shoe is passed down by my aunt and no stocks can be found islandwide. OI LUI BUOY BO HOR! that is why they say opportunity never knock twice.

why on earth do such people exist? Is this kind of behaviour indicating deprived of love? desperate? self pity or a sheer act of innocence? scratch head* no one knows except that oneself with an evil thought crawling creepily inside the heart. poor chap please wake up and you may want to start praying for becoming true to yourself.

Basically this way of presenting yourself to the public is characterised by the belief that you're the victim of events and is therefore deserving of condolence. Perhaps you may have forgotten that this is regard as a negative emotion and ain't healthy. In fact self pity is perfectly normal so long as it is transitory and leads to either acceptance or a determination to change the situation.

Sad to admit, neither transition nor positive thoughts have pull yourself through. You're back to square one and inevitably landed in a darkest square of yours ; meaning no peace of mind. Though it's remarkably self sustaining, depression in conjunction with other unstable mood conditions may arise. To be truthful, how you shine and whine, no one bothers as much as yourself...

An overspender's story

Fentress, 29, has thought seriously about pursuing a doctorate, but her academic and life goals are on hold. She first has to pay off an $85,000 debt.

Her financial troubles stem from a combination of emotional spending, a lack of financial savvy and bad luck.

Shortly after she earned her master's degree, Fentress had medical problems that required a scan of her stomach. Her insurance didn't cover the $5,000 procedure, which she charged to her credit card.

She was working as a freelancer so taxes weren't deducted from her paychecks. When tax season arrived, she put another few thousand dollars on her card.

Her problems worsened when depression became involved.
While juggling graduate school with three jobs, sleep took a backseat to writing her thesis. Fentress also became unhappy with her job and her life's direction, so she tried to fill "the void" with possessions.

"I had worked so hard and felt like I had so little to show for it and I just went a little crazy," she said.

A four-year binge added up to about 300 pairs of shoes, two trips to Europe, several pairs of designer jeans, spending $600 at an auction and lots of jewelry.

Fentress is one of millions of Americans with an addiction to shopping, said Olivia Mellan, a psychotherapist and author of "Overcoming Overspending: A Winning Plan for Spenders and Their Partners."

"Shopping like this is a compulsion ... It's not like people say, 'Do I have the money for this? What are my other goals?' They just want something and they go get it," Mellan said.'

Fentress had been issued about 15 credit cards. Her strategy had been to open new accounts to transfer growing balances.While Fentress' debt is above average, about half of America carries some credit card debt.

The average credit card balance for Americans was $5,100 in 2004, according to a Federal Reserve Board report. Slightly more than 46 percent of families carried a balance that year.

the past one year was a survival test to me, at last i made it to be a good team player of the group. the hard work pays off really... thank god! being promoted within a year isn't easy and i was glad that i have a good boss who harbours thoughts for us - the members. with such a promising reward brought me supreme motivation and though the evening course is turning me into an owl, i am sure that my work committment is never going to be affected. of course not only to my xiao lao ban who is helping me lots, there are other members who have also helped me along the way to success...

For the first time, hpp lesson isn't so dull. perhaps i have missed this stretch of topics that has been covered months ago. it's an intensive go through. so scary the more i study the tougher it gets.

today's topics covered angina pectoris, cardiac failure, heart attack and infarction. if u skimp through the book you probably think that they are all the same. haa haa haa i;m wrong too... they are so different, with varying treatments and outcomes.

when we touched on the chapter on blood pressure, blood volume, starling curves... i was having a thought for someone...poor girl she had to struggle with the pain in her chest and now the abdominal pain. no certain diagnosis and what were given to treat are those junk pain killers. sincerely pray that she will get well soon...

What's going on with my saturday?

Over the past two years, today is the earliest day i woke up. 7am ok for a weekend! Determined to jump out of bed as I have so many tasks to accomplish for the day. Had a gleeful breakfast with xiao zhu and then started doing my assignment and completed in an hour. Laze for around twenty minutes on my cozy bed. Not forgetting the revision, I spent nearly 2 hours on that. Had a quiet lunch. Scrolled through the newonline page for latest update. Back on calculations on pH and pKa. Had a short chat with a scrawny pig... the eyes could not even open wide. basically he is just like a vampire. he sees only the moon and not the sun. time for dinner and we cooked western food - chicken burger with wedges and sauages plus cooling ice lemon water. yummy king.... The later part of the day began at AMK hub with qing and masculine Andy, grabbed the cheapest sandals in neighbourhood shopping malls; 2 for $16 ..wahahah~

reoccurence of the elephant feet symptom

after so many visits to the doctor, i found Dr SYED finally.
six months ago, the pain stroke me down and so i went to consult him.
he gave me an anti inflammatory drug and after application i feel so much relieved. i was in the hope of seeing him when i went for consultation at the staff clinic but he was not on duty and i met a stupid doctor who told me " maybe it's a sprain ", "maybe it's rheumatism" and the last straw was " maybe it could be a gout ". The moment i heard this my eyes rolled and replied "can you be certain of the diagnosis!" already so annoyed by the long awaiting queue at the clinic due to his stupid act. he was caught reading newsapaper in the room and stopped seeing patients from queue no. 9 -12. nowadays doctors are bums ; they are too young to hold up the profession.

Wake up please and pull up your socks!

Angpows are sooooo shiok man!

Three days of bai nian gain a pretty good sum of effortless cash, though its a few hundred dollars but it meant lots to me. The most is contributed by my xiao uncle, second most by my mother and followed by a few twenty dollars from sister and aunties. The visiting process was fun and enjoyable but there are times where boredom sets in. Well still manage to catch some genetics reading before setting off in the afternoon for the process. But surprisingly, i ain't eating as usual, the amount of food that i craved for went low. Haa the food not appetizing or should i say every year is almost the same kind of food that is being served on table.

though its just 11.90 for the singapore version but my patience brought me free songs... haa~
Ahem of course not download from baidu, kana caught red handed i got no money for fines.
i found a search engine that share musics and songs of various singers, it only allow listening and not saving the song file.

the very next day went cold storage with my colleague and before that we popped by the music station and she grabbed the new release - Wind It Up
so i got her to lend me the album and rip all the songs to my nano.. so happy eh

in fact the main song " wind it up" is nothing new from other r&b songs, and yes there is yodelling! the lyrics is also nothing new, all about dancing and f***ing but overall i like the catchy feeling of this song and its mtv... on second look, she has 90% resemblance of madonna

seriously broke... really dunnoe why the aunties like Rain so much that they can dumb in so much money to buy the hot seats for his upcoming concert in singapore.

ever since the debut of full house, my mother falls deeply in love with this macho singer cum actor. he is from south korea and is real good at his dancing skills. she got mesmerized by the small eyes of his.. followed by his toned body and his manly voice. the show has a total of 20 episodes and my mother played it for almost for six times, i mean repeated watching for a god damn of 6 X , this is really no joke.

If a recycled tin can cost 10cents, it will require an old lady to pick up 1billion cans to earn 1 million.

Let's see the good show. According to my prediction. His sentence will be merely just fines. and how much can they fine him? 12 million dollars? or 20 millions ? If the sentence of TT Durian is light with NO JAIL TERM but fine, I will be a professional Cheater in future, cheat and spend it like no 1 business, if i get caught, and pay fine i dun mind cause at least I get to spend 1 million dollars on SIA flights and Hilton hotels. Rain Mayhem

the monsoon season has arrived and the current spell of rainy weather is likely to continue like nobody business. went ikea, ended with two coloured photo frames and they aren't the cheap ones. anyway the primary purpose is not to get the square boards but to shop for a solid and steady table to support the heavy and hardly in use video projector... too bad couldn't get the best out of the so many set of furniture. Later, we were happily devouring the famous slice fish beenhoon from hong kong street resturant and the minute our bowls got emptied, the downpour set in as if the water pipe failed to function and water kept flushing with high pressure... sharks i hate the wet weather it wiped out my mood.

After so much of discussion on the topic of depression during HPP lesson, I finally got the feel of how a depressed individual goes on with his life. Without much delay, we made a quick move after getting ourselves the desired cup of mocha. The commercial free movie - A beautiful mind was showing on channel 5 at 1030pm last night. John Nash the brillant yet a schizophrenic won the Nobel Award after so many years of struggle. He is a real mathematical genius. He made an astonishing discovery early in his career and stood on the brink of international acclaim. But Nash soon found himself on a painful and harrowing journey of self-discovery. He teaches maths in a university but his life turns to the nightnarish when he accepts secret work in cryptography.
Throughtout the show, tinge of sadness hit me. Alicia, his wife was too great to have compromised him by seeing through the sufferings. It is only with Alicia's help that Nash will be able to recover his mental strength and regain his status as the great mathematician we know him as today.
